A colorful bit for a dreary Monday morning!

Across the Pond [that’s in the UK] - Skittles is running its own ‘low latency’ campaign in the vein of Old Spice Guy.

In fact it’s very similar indeed.

Except on Facebook.

You post an update on their Fbook wall, they make a video of someone in the Skittles call centre reading it out and post it on your wall.

I like this a lot conceptually – it plays well into the “do more things faster” thing we’ve been talking about – but just reading out the updates isn’t as funny as the ‘scripted improv’ of Isaiah in the Shower.

That said – for the hundreds of individuals they are making films for – it’s personal relevant [branded] content begging to be shared.

It is all about product crowdsourcing. People come up with product ideas and if there is enough demand, the site will actually produce them. Users get paid In return for feedback and participation. Pretty interesting stuff.

Actually – that pretty much covers it – but I dig this because it understand that different parts of the system work together, it delivers some immediate, contextually appropriate value for interacting, and comes under the banner of low latency [immediate response and gratification from the billboard]

Today’s bit is some feline fun for IKEA [UK]. They let 100 cats out inside an IKEA store and let them roam around.

If you correctly match one of the kittens with the piece of furniture it ‘chooses’ - you win that piece of furniture.

This is charming and ties into a number of trends we’ve discussed…

- Websites that use real work randomness / actions [like Orange’s Spot the Bull, or the AXE 100 women site]
- Websites with LOTS Of cheaply made video [each cat has a back story video] [the principle of ubiquity]

…and the fact that the INTERNET LOVES KITTENS.
